What a productive 2 days I have had. Yesterday I went to see my regular physio's boss. He is a really nice guy, softly spoken and extremely informative. Lisa thought it would be a good idea to see him as he too is an Ironman, and I come to find out he is doing IM Port Macquarie next year as well. It was great chatting with him and he was genuinely interested in me and my goals. He too was a swimmer as a young boy and he knew my coach's wife and brother, as well as my older brother's arch nemesis in the pool. We live in such a small world. This 6 degrees of separation has just shrunk to 3.
Talking to the physio made my 40mins go by really quickly, it also made the pain not so bad but once again I came out red and the infamous bruises quickly pop up. No probs - I am getting used to it. We got to speaking about my runners - and well - my runners are to now be used as "mowing shoes". They have outlived their purpose and I now have to invest in a new pair. Two options - Asics 2150 or Asics Kayano. I need to try these on ASAP and find the pair that suits me. I am guessing these will cost a bit and so I may have to look at purchasing these overseas.
So I left the physio rooms with a renewed sense of worth and it got my brain ticking overtime once again. I have come to realise that when people tell me I should try something cause they think I can do it, I seriously give it alot of thought. A half marathon was thrown around in conversation during my physio session and well - I woke up this morning and registered for the Sydney Running Festival Half Marathon on September 19th, 2010. I figure if I can run 8km now and I have 102 days to train for 21.1km - I can do this "no sweat". I know, I know, it's another 13km but whats another 13km between friends :)
So because I have this as a goal I went out for my run today - 8km was my chosen distance. And I did it in 44mins 42sec. Almost 2 minutes faster than Sunday's race. Ahhh, the joy of no hills. What a difference that made. This was the time I wanted to run it in on Sunday, so I am glad today I could do it - better late than never I say.
When I got home I gave my Tri Club coach a call and told him everything that I had been doing and he seemed quite chuffed with my progress. He said that he had been waiting to here back from me about my knee and now that I have the "green light"so to speak, he is going to email me a base program to get me up and going to reach each goal at a time. First on the list - Half Marathon.

ReplyDeleteAll right, a half-marathon? What will Barb do next? :) Does Zappo's ship for free overseas? I'd check them out.
ReplyDeleteBDD: I don't know what it is - I guess its the thrill of the challenge and wanting to prove to myself that I can :)
ReplyDeleteKovas: I'm not sure whats next - its a bit scary to think :) What are Zappo's? Should I get excited - what do they do?
Kovas: I am very excited, just jumped on and saw their prices. They sure did ship free YAY, will compare their prices to Wiggle.co.uk and another American site who's name has slipped my mind and see how they compare. Thankyou so much.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Good to hear that the knee is on the mend! Better to hear that you have signed up for a 1/2! You are hooked!
ReplyDeleteSkierz: I am hooked - hook, line and sinker.
